Livada, Arad | 18–22 August 2025
The STEAM Summer School “Green Science” was an intensive educational program dedicated to children from Livada and neighboring areas, organized by the Garden of Science Association in a natural, friendly environment open to exploration. Over the course of five days, more than 70 children aged between 4 and 15 learned science through play, experimentation, direct observation, and creative activities.
The project combined STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) with environmental care, community collaboration, and the joy of discovery, transforming learning into a vivid and memorable experience.
The first day was dedicated to ecology and biodiversity. Children learned what an ecosystem is, how plants communicate with each other, and why trees are essential for our lives.
They explored the orchard and the small forest of the association, observed trees planted in previous years, and actively participated in the planting of linden trees, aromatic plants, and shrubs, jointly building a small functional ecosystem.
The day ended with creative activities, reading, ecological games, and plenty of outdoor play.

The second day was a true cosmic adventure. Children discovered the Sun, planets, and stars, learned why meteorites melt when entering the atmosphere, and had the opportunity to observe Venus and constellations through a telescope.
Astronomy blended with play, drawing, and curiosity, and the evening created a special atmosphere in which the sky itself became an open classroom.

On the day dedicated to beekeeping, children entered the fascinating world of bees. They learned how a hive works, the role of the queen, how honey is produced, and why bees are vital for ecosystems.
They observed the hive up close, decorated honey jars, and took part in tastings of different types of honey, including directly from the honeycomb – an authentic and highly appreciated experience.

The fourth day focused on care for the environment. Children learned how selective waste collection works, what types of waste exist, and how the recycling system functions.
Through sorting games, creative activities, and exploration of an educational mini-farm, children understood that protecting nature can be simple, fun, and part of everyday life.

The final day was dedicated to scientific experiments. Children explored magnetism, electricity, gravity, liquid pressure, and light, using microscopes, hand-powered generators, optical discs, and electrical circuit games.
The day concluded with scientific reading, discussions about what they had discovered, and a curiosity circle, where each child shared something new they had learned.

The “Green Science” Summer School laid the foundations for a sustainable educational micro-ecosystem, where children learned through direct experience, collaboration, and play. For many of them, it was their first encounter with applied science outside the classroom – an experience that sparked curiosity, confidence, and the desire to discover more.
